Zachary Sloan

Zachary Sloan is a composer, lyricist, bookwriter, and orchestrator. His musicals include The Time the Axeman Came to Town (Book, Music & Lyrics), the mini-musical The Next Top Cryptid (Music & Lyrics, additional Book), co-written with librettist Marshall Frey and selected as part of the 2025 Pocket Opera Project at Tri-Cities Opera (presented in partnership with WSKG Television); Astorville!, (Book, Music & Lyrics) an original collaboration with Cameron Kolpak first conceived in Berklee College of Music’s Writing and Production for Musical Theatre (WPMT) graduate program and featured in the 2026 WPMT Cohort Showcase at Power Station Studios in June 2026; and His Girl Friday (Music & Lyrics), a musical adaptation of the 1940 film (named to AFI’s list of the best American comedies) written in collaboration with Danielle Moore. His Girl Friday will receive a full production at Creative Cauldron in their 2027-2028 season and The Time the Axeman Came to Town will receive a developmental reading at the Le Petit Theater in New Orleans. Zachary has written original works for multiple ensembles including Hub New Music, the Momenta Quartet, and the Society for New Music, and his songs have been featured in Sparks & Wiry Cries’ songSLAM at National Sawdust and Punch Up! Theatre Co.’s Musical Theater Fight Club. He most recently assisted in orchestrating a musical theater medley for the New York City Center Youth Orchestra, which performed at the 2026 Roger Rees Awards. Zachary’s music draws on a wide range of styles, from the jazz sounds of the Great American Songbook to the Latin-American grooves of contemporary big bands. His work focuses on using the craft of musical theater to inform large audiences about the wide variety of topics he is interested in, from the whimsy of theme parks to early 1900s jazz or the dangers of generative AI.
